Hankering for an adventure in the woods? Check out the spring festivals and events scheduled at Tennessee state parks.

Even if you’ve never met a bug you wanted to carry home, check the website for the photography. And tell some kid you love about this neat job, walking in the woods taking pictures.

Enjoy the warmer weather with a variety of festivals, events and activities. From overnight canoe floats to wildflower hikes, there’s a family adventure waiting for you at an affordable price.

Close to home, there are:

  • Old Time Music Jam at Sycamore Shoals State Historic Park on May 26. All musicians, regardless of skill level, are invited to join the Old Time Music Jam. Even if you don’t play an instrument, you’re welcome to relax and enjoy the lively tunes!
  • Hiking Adventure at Warriors Path State Park on Saturday, May 18. Embark on an 11-mile hiking adventure in Carter County boasting breathtaking high-country views, diverse wildlife habitats and mountain wildflowers
  • Kayaking 101 Courses at multiple state parks on Saturday, May 18. Do you want to gain the skills and confidence to kayak this summer? State parks have joined with the American Canoe Association to provide affordable kayaking 101 courses at 11 state parks across Tennessee during National Safe Boating Week.
  • Afternoon Lake Cruise at Norris Dam State Park. Meet at the Norris Dam Marina. Cruise from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, May 17, with Ranger Trent Ellen. $15/person ($10 for those 5 and younger). Discuss the history of Norris Dam and take in the scenery and wildlife along the shores. Trip is dependent on good weather. Registration is required.
