Wes Stowers, chair of Stowers Machinery Corporation, was recently presented the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. He is only the 9th individual in the Great Smoky Mountain Council to have received this high honor.
The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award (DESA) was established in 1969 to acknowledge Eagle Scouts who have received extraordinary national-level recognition, fame or eminence within their field, and have a strong record of voluntary service to their community.
Only Eagle Scouts who earned the rank 25 or more years previously are eligible for nomination. The award is given by the National Eagle Scout Association upon the recommendation of a committee of Distinguished Eagle Scouts.
According to the award presented to Stowers, he has been involved in the Boy Scouts since 1967.
