Update from Mike Donila with Knox County Parks & Rec

We met with a number of contractors today to talk about how long it will take to clean up The Cove and just how much it will cost.

As it stands, Saturday’s storms probably did as much as $150,000 to $200,000 in damages to the park (that includes clean up and repairs).

We hope to have a contractor in place in the coming days and have The Cove opened by the weekend of June 17 for the dragon boat races.

In the meantime, we have cancelled free fishing day on June 10 and the concert at The Cove also set for June 10.

The June 10 concert scheduled for New Harvest Park is still on!

Also, the Knox County Parks and Recreation Department wants to thank everyone for their kind works and requests to volunteer. Right now, however, it’s too dangerous to have folks out there. However, the non-profit Legacy Parks Foundation has set up a fund for folks who want to donate to help The Cove. The money will be used mostly to buy new benches, tables, signs and trees.
