This fellow was marching across the driveway one morning and was not fond of my stopping him for a mug shot.

Family and friends gathering for Thanksgiving can bring up a variety of interesting old stories. A favorite of mine was my family sitting around talking one summer evening. Suddenly, a blood curdling scream comes from the front porch. Mom and Grandma raced to see and soon joined the chorus of screaming.

Not one to get excited, Dad said “I guess we better go see what this is about.”

A box turtle had a solid bite on my little brother’s foot. Folklore says a turtle won’t let go until it thunders, which could be a long time in a dry Nebraska summer. Not willing to wait, dad reached down and yanked the turtle, and maybe a little meat, from his foot. Problem solved.

What does this have to do with Thanksgiving? Nothing, except that as you count your blessings, may you have some good stories to remember and share with those close to you.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer share a painting or photograph each week that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours.
