The Library invites you to look to the night skies. There are mysteries aplenty to discover.
Knox County Public Library is pleased to partner with the Smoky Mountain Astronomical Society to launch a monthly series called “To the Moon and Beyond.”
Geared to late elementary/middle-school students and their parents, the program will cover telescope basics, phases of the moon, what to see in the night sky and the effects of light pollution (i.e., visibility difference in urban vs. rural areas). You’ll also learn about highlights from the Apollo and Artemis missions. The program will include time for hands-on observation through telescopes (weather permitting).
Each program will begin at 6:30 p.m. The schedule is:
- Karns Branch Library – Tuesday, February 28
- Norwood Branch Library – Monday, March 27
- Cedar Bluff Branch Library– Thursday, April 27
- Farragut Branch Library – Tuesday, May 30
- Bearden Branch Library – June program to be determined
- Powell Branch Library – Tuesday, July 25
- Sequoyah Branch Library– Monday, August 21
