Berry Funeral Home, specifically the original Berry’s on Chapman Highway, is again organizing burial for eight veterans whose military service is confirmed but whose bodies went “unclaimed” by family or friends.
You can read about the program here, in a story we published in 2019. Jeff Berry, grandson of Fred O. Berry Sr., coordinates the local Dignity Memorial Homeless Veterans Burial Program. Jeff is funeral director at the Berry Funeral Home on Chapman Highway.
“Since these men had no family in life, there will be brothers in arms to see them to their final resting place,” he said in the earlier story. “These men will not be forgotten.” This story includes photos of the 2019 ceremony.
The veterans service will be held Thursday, May 9, 2024, at noon at East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E Governor John Sevier Hwy, Knoxville, Tennessee.
