Musical inspiration from multiple genres is creating a one-of-a-kind halftime experience for audiences of the Oak Ridge High School WildBand’s halftime show this fall. Titled “The Mummy’s Soul,” the program weaves culturally diverse sounds from around the globe, layers in the blues and rocks into a surprise crescendo of supernatural proportions.
Under the direction of Michael Spirko, WildBand’s performance includes Led Zepelin’s Kashmir, The Bangles’ Walk Like an Egyptian, and Blues in the Night by Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer.
“It’s one of our best opportunities yet to display the range of styles this band is capable of mastering,” said Spirko. “The band has a long tradition of excellence, and we’re excited to take this show from halftime to music competitions later this year.” The band appreciates the continued support of the entire community.
Band Boosters will offer several spirit items for sale at home football games, with proceeds going to support band and student needs. Boosters provide water, snacks and some meals to support the demanding fall schedule of home and away performances.
