Christmas came with lots of excitement. Much of my art found new homes. Some were special requests or commissioned paintings. I love the holidays, gifting and surprises. On Christmas morning, I hope all were pleasantly surprised.

With several photos in hand for reference, Maple’s owner had no strict rules for this portrait. I chose a pose of her on the water’s edge with dappled light that begged to be painted. Her beautiful coat caught the sun and the breeze, and I connected with her Sweet Maple soul.

An artistic secret I will share here: I’m never entirely sure how the finished product will look. Sure, I have a vision and reference photos, but it’s never concrete. There are “happy accidents” and “artist’s license” aplenty flying around my studio, but intuition pulls it out.  I hope Maple liked this as much as her owner.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They have a small studio and gallery in the Phoenix Building at 418 South Gay Street where you can stop and see their work. Their website is www.ChristopherRobinArts.com. All works are copyright protected.
