Remember how happy the giant field of sunflowers made you feel? Remember the July sun, warm on your face coaxing the flower heads to turn, following the days path?

And just how do the flowers get back to the east-facing starting line the following day? That was then.

Now, the summer is gone. The sunflowers hang their heads with dropped petals and seeds spilling from those hypnotic golden centers. The green is brown, the gold is black, the scene seems sad. That is the circle of life.

Like nature, we too experience seasons. Planting, growth, harvest and gone only to begin anew in a few months. Embrace each, appreciating what it holds.

This painting brings back the feel of the fall air, crunch of leaves and smells of October. Painted from a favorite sunflower field in Jefferson County, it reminds me there is a purpose and beauty in every season.
