The next Knoxville SOUP will be held Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Kerbela Temple, 315 Mimosa Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the program starts at 6:30.

The popular crowd-funding event – which takes place in spring, summer and fall – raises money to help community-focused projects launch or grow. Up to four projects are selected to be presented to attendees, who then consider the projects as they dine on soup, salad, bread and dessert.

The crowd votes for their favorite project, and the highest vote-getter wins the take from the door. A minimum $5 donation is suggested per person.

Individuals or groups with a project that needs funding are encouraged to fill out the application on knoxvillesoup.org. Proposals must be submitted by Oct. 14. Selected presenters will be notified by Oct. 17.

At the SOUP dinner held in July at the South Knoxville Community Center, New Hopewell Elementary Community School won $708.75 for its project, Tremont Teacher Training. Previous SOUPs have funded greenways and trails, exercise and sports equipment, and backpacks for students.
