- Central Cinema benefit show: Four bands are collaborating in a show to benefit Central Cinema, a one-screen independent theater set to open in 2018, on Saturday, Aug. 19, at the Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave. Psychic Baos, Paperwork, Horcerer and God’s Buffet will perform during the 9 p.m.-1 a.m. show. A donation of $5 is suggested at the door.
- South Knoxville Alliance to meet: The South Knoxville Alliance of Businesses and Professionals will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, at Dogwood Elementary School, 705 Tipton Ave. Adam Fritts, site resource coordinator for Dogwood Elementary Community School, and Lindsey Kimble from Open Streets Knoxville will speak.
- Dailey, Rountree constituent meeting: Ninth District County Commissioner Carson Dailey and school board representative Amber Rountree will meet with the public at Dailey’s monthly “Ask the Commissioner” get-together, 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Gap Creek Market, 2138 Kimberlin Heights Road. Residents are encouraged to drop by and voice any concerns or questions.
- DreamBikes fundraiser: DreamBikes, a nonprofit bike shop that provides hands-on, paid job training for underserved teens, will present Gears and Beers, a fundraiser concert, Thursday, Aug. 31, at The Standard, 416 W. Jackson Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the band Three Star Revival will perform 8-10 p.m. Each ticket includes a plate of barbecue from Sweet P’s BBQ & Downtown Dive and a beer from YeeHaw Brewing Co. - Eclipse Party: Mayor Tim Burchett will host an eclipse viewing party 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday, August 21, at The Cove at Concord Park. Those in attendance should see the total eclipse for about 90 seconds about 2:33 p.m. Knox County Schools will be closed Aug. 21. The party will feature music from RMS rock band from 11:30 to 1:30.
