A longtime Knox County businesswoman has died.
Helen Elizabeth Mincey, 81, of Corryton passed away on July 9, 2022. She was the owner of Helen’s Flower, a business she started in 1964 when her oldest daughter married. She was determined to do her entire wedding and she did, after taking cake decorating classes. This was the beginning of Helen’s Flowers and Catering which she continued until her retirement.
With her husband, she operated Mincey’s Market and three locations of Shoe Country. In retirement, she moved to Myrtle Beach and lived there for 16 years, being active at the senior center and a homeless ministry called Hope’s Kitchen.
Her daughter, Gina Horsley, followed her mom as a hard worker and enterprising entrepreneur. Gina’s son, Jeremiah Horsley, was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on June 26 and remains hospitalized. Other family members are listed in Helen’s obituary here.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, at Mynatt Funeral Home, Fountain City Chapel. A service will follow.
