John W. Holland was a solid leader in the Halls community, even though he liked to tell folks he grew up in Lonsdale and was a proud graduate of Rule High School. Halls and Lonsdale both lost a friend when the Rev. Holland died on October 18, 2024. He was 88.
John lost his wife of 64 years, Pat, in May. They are survived by sons Tim and Linc and their families. The full obituary is here.
Salem Baptist Church has loyal and longtime members, many multigenerational families attend. This country Baptist church kept John Holland as pastor for 34 years – from August 11, 1968 until January 13, 2002. This quote from the obituary says why: John devoted his life to the ministry and led by example as a husband, father, leader and servant. … John’s influence and ministry will still continue as Salem Baptist Church grows and serves the Halls Crossroads community.
The family will receive friends from 4:30-7 p.m. today (10/21/24) at Salem Baptist Church, 8201 Hill Road, Knoxville, followed by a 7 p.m. Celebration of Life service. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, at Lynnhurst Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service, with Dr. James Robertson officiating.
