Joyce Carolyn Sewell, the first woman elected to the Grainger County Board of Commissioners, has died at age 91. Mrs. Sewell served 20 years of the county governing body. She was a member of the Tennessee County Commissioners Association and served as president and treasurer.
She was the first woman president of the Grainger County Chamber of Commerce and was named the county’s Woman of the Year in 1996. Her full obituary is here.
The family and friends will gather at Grainger Memorial Gardens at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022, for a 2 p.m. service. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 20, 5-7 p.m. at Bridges Funeral Home, 5430 Rutledge Pike.
