Blount County reporter/photographer Ken Garland, 72, passed away on July 20. A Celebration of Life will be held at noon Saturday, July 27, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home in Maryville. Family will receive friends there from 10 a.m. to noon.
A graduate of Everett High School and the University of Tennessee, Mr. Garland had a 35-year career in newspaper reporting in Tennessee and North Carolina. He retired in 2004 as the News Sentinel’s Blount County bureau chief.
In retirement, he volunteered with Smoky Mountain Meals on Wheels, serviced on the board of directors for the Community Action Agency and served a three-year term as president of the Cades Cove Preservation Association. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sharon Douglas Garland, and other family and friends. Obituary information here.
