Several local teams and individual athletes made it through the competition brackets to championship game day on Friday in Murfreesboro.

South-Doyle boys’ soccer won Class AA title for their first state championship in program history, beating Greeneville by a close, 2-1.

Bearden boys’ soccer won Class AAA championship, beating Ravenwood 1-0 after a penalty kick shootout. The Bearden soccer team made it to the championship game in 2021 and 2022, falling just short of the title. This was an even greater victory for any teammates from those former squads.

Gibbs softball claimed its 11th state title, ending as seven-year drought with a commanding 7-1 victory over Carter in a rematch from their regional championship. Two excellent local teams dominated the field to reach to the championship game. This will be a rivalry to continue to follow.

Farragut baseball left no doubt they would earn their 13th state title, third in a row, beating Nolensville 3-1. Farragut is now tied with Christian Brothers for the most state titles.

Farragut reached the championship after defeating Beach 13-10 in a 3.5-hour game on Thursday. This was trip 19 for Farragut baseball to the title game in program history.

One day after the historic win for Farragut baseball, Matt Buckner who has coached the Admirals for 15 seasons and to seven state championships announced his retirement. Buckner is leaving at the same time as his son Lukas, who has signed with Mississippi State. Lukas is among 15 seniors to have signed to play college baseball, 11 at Division I level.

Knoxville Catholic defeated Baylor in Division II Class AA Girls’ team tennis.

  • Joshua Cross (CAK): Class A 1600 meter run
  • Joshua Cross (CAK): Class A 3200 meter run
  • Matthew Green (South-Doyle): Class AA Decathlon Pole Vault
  • Matthew Green (South-Doyle): Class AA Decathlon Long Jump
  • Brody Foster Knoxville (Halls): Class AAA Decathlon 110 meter hurdles
  • Chase McAvoy (Farragut): Class AAA Decathlon 1500 Meter Run
