The Pittman family announced a new scholarship has been established to provide financial assistance for children of Knoxville Fire Department (KFD) employees pursuing a post- secondary college degree or vocational training. The scholarship will be administered by the Knox Education Foundation.

Pittman Properties, a local property management company, endowed the scholarship in perpetuity to honor the service of the late William “Bill” Pittman, who joined the KFD in 1963 and advanced to the position of fire marshal for the city of Knoxville until his retirement in 1998.

Graduating seniors with a parent employed by the KFD can apply for the $5,000 annual scholarship beginning in the 2025-2026 school year. The scholarship will provide financial assistance at a 4-year university or community college or for vocational/technical training.

The Knox Education Foundation will be providing details on how eligible students can apply in January 2025.

“My father encouraged my own education and provided the opportunity for me to graduate from the University of Tennessee,” said Bill Pittman, principal of Pittman Properties. “I am proud we can honor my father and his distinguished career by supporting that opportunity for another firefighter’s child to advance their education.”
