Rusty Rails

SoKno, hipster jargon for South Knoxville, is the hot spot these days!

With rapid area growth, the opening of Kern’s Food Hall, an array of new restaurants and retailers, it is becoming difficult to find two acres of serenity south of downtown. However, I did.

On the Tennessee River, Scottish Pike Park, small and unknown, was the setting of this week’s artwork. Plein Air painting captures the essence of the scene, adding enough information to tell the story. This keeps the work fresh and unburdened with few details to weigh it down, the shapes and light become more important.

The “romantically” named CSX Bridge was built in 1966; spanning over 1,000 feet it is still in regular use. I was unable to discover the origin of “Scottish Pike.” Please comment if you know.

First Friday Artwalk is this week. Stop in our studio as we will be there until 9 p.m.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They have a small studio and gallery in the Phoenix Building at 418 South Gay Street where you can stop and see their work. Their website is www.ChristopherRobinArts.com. All works are copyright protected.
