Robotics, code, STEM & solar

What do robotics, electric code, STEM education and solar all have in common? Solar Alliance! We’ve proudly admired the hard work and competitive spirit of the Hardin Valley Academy RoHAWKtics as they’ve built, programmed and traveled with their robots over multiple school years.

We most recently caught up with the RoHAWKtics as they competed at the Smoky Mountains Regional FIRST Robotics Competition in Knoxville. At the Civic Coliseum, they brought in their entire team with portable containers full of tools, fine-tuned any issues with the robot they had built themselves, then competed in arena matches.

The FIRST Robotics program that HVA RoHAWKtics participates in enlists school sponsorship, community mentors and students who sign up for lengthy training, tweaking, building, business planning and more for hours on end during their active season. Team 3824 proudly competed again in 2023, after bringing home a “winner” banner for the 2022 Smoky Mountains Regional.

Solar Alliance is honored to be one of multiple technology sponsors for the RoHAWKtics team! We’ve also been honored to talk about technology at multiple school career fairs through the years.

Our general manager, Jon Hamilton, has spoken to Tennessee College of Applied Technology students at both Knoxville and Morristown campuses. He has explained how the material students are learning there ties right into how a solar project comes together. This is especially true of classroom focus on the National Electric Code. For several years, our vice president, Harvey Abouelata, has led free educational workshops for small businesses.

We’re also excited to complete the onboarding as an 865 Academies Industry Partner for Knox County Schools. This means being available for more opportunities to support science, technology, engineering and math education in the school system.

“We are so grateful to Solar Alliance for supporting us this season,” said RoHAWKtics mentor and parent Shay Boswell. “Look forward to working with you all in the future.” So do we! We’re big fans of technical education and are proud to have a role in educating our clients and community about solar.
