Playing ‘why’ with Karen George

Sandra ClarkOur Town Leaders, West Knoxville

Meet Karen George, president of the Women’s Council of Realtors Knoxville Network for 2023. She is an affiliate broker with Realty Executives Associates, based in the West Hills office. Let’s go!

KnoxTNToday: Karen, tell us why you sell real estate:

Karen George: I started my education and career in the legal field. I changed my career in 2011, but wanted to keep the advocacy and protection that I had learned. I pride myself in protecting my clients through explaining documents and contracts thoroughly.

KTT: Why is the Women’s Council of Realtors valuable?

KG: The council is valuable to my career through the education that is provided, the networking, the professional advice, national referrals and leadership development.

KTT: Why affiliate with Realty Executives Associates?

KG: Realty Executives Associates is the #1 agency in East Tennessee. I am not just a number here and the leadership provides me with support and guidance. Our culture is constant growth and support. I could not see myself anywhere else. I love our reputation and honor it in the field.

KTT: Are you really a comedian?

KG: I performed comedy publicly in 2010 in Washington, D.C., at an open mic night. I guess my favorite performance was at a Christian concert with my aunt in attendance in Cleveland, Tennessee. I changed clothes before every act and did about 45 minutes of combined comedy through the night.

KTT: What do YOU laugh about in 2023?

KG: I laugh at new agents who joined the industry in 2022, when ALL homes were selling for at least $30K over asking price and there was no need to “sell” homes. Now we have to know how to market, how to word offers and how to negotiate on behalf of our clients.

The Women’s Council of Realtors’ website shows two upcoming events:

  • Daniel Park, also an agent with REA, will lead a discussion of Enneagram – a personality test that ranks participants in nine categories. Over one million of these online tests were taken in the last 30 days, according to the website. The event is scheduled from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at The Foundry, World’s Fair Park.
  • A social event is set for Saturday, Feb. 18, from 7-11 p.m. at the Airport Hilton, 2001 Alcoa Hwy. The price is $60 for members; $75 for non-members.

Karen George and her husband, Chris, moved to the Knoxville area over 12 years ago. Through hard work, she has built a successful career while managing her household and raising her young son.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from UT-Chattanooga in 2001, spent many years working as a paralegal and obtained her real estate license in 2012. She joined REA in 2015, and has won the Executive Award five times.

Karen believes that education, experience, market familiarity and dedication to her clients have been essential to her success in real estate. Also, she understands the importance of networking and building relationships with other agents, lenders, home inspectors, contractors and title companies.
