Lauren Cox, special events and program coordinator for the town of Farragut, was elected vice president of the Tennessee Recreation and Parks Association at the organization’s annual meeting in October.

TRPA advocates for parks and recreation funding at federal, state and local levels and provides continuing education for parks and recreation staff across the state, according to a press release from the town.

The non-profit professional society has over 1,400 members. Cox has been employed by the town for six years and a member of TRPA for 11 years. She has served on several TRPA committees and also as east district chair.

Outdoor classroom to host open house

Farragut High School’s outdoor classroom will host an open house 4:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, with tours highlighting water quality features, past and current community projects and available project space.

Get ideas and guidance on how to use this space for hands-on service learning. Light snacks will be provided. Parking at the outdoor classroom is limited; additional parking is available at the high school.

Located at the corner of N. Campbell Station Road and the high school entrance, the outdoor classroom provides diverse learning opportunities and demonstration projects such as rainwater harvesting, permeable pavers and a rain garden. It is funded through the capital budget of the town of Farragut.
