Wonder how your business could best make energy and resilience upgrades? You have an option in Knox County that involves paying for it via your property tax payments now through the C-PACER program. We first told you about this program when the county was considering it and then voted to approve C-PACER, following suit with all the other metro areas in Tennessee.
Now you are invited to listen in as the Knoxville Chamber of Commerce hosts with the Knox County Trustee’s office an online webinar called Fueling Business Expansion Through C-PACER. This is coming up Thursday, September 12, and is free; but you do need to register to access the program.
C-PACER stands for Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy and Resiliency. The program is growing in popularity nationwide to upgrade infrastructure and save on utility bills. Approved lenders can finance projects that businesses then pay for over several years via their property tax bills. This can even be transferred to future property owners.
As described here previously, this energy financing program is already in place for three other major cities in the state: passed by Memphis in late 2022 and Metro Nashville/Davidson County as well as Chattanooga in early 2023.
The September 12 program announcement notes that C-PACER is a funding mechanism that can help your business grow. The program covers upgrades to renewable solar energy, as well as better insulation, windows and heating/air systems.
