My fellow KnoxTNToday cohort Book Whisperer Linda Sullivan recently went on the 2024 Book Whisperer Trip with 17 readers, after sharing books and previewing the experience. I, of course, tag along on every trip and here are some of my favorite photos from this incredible experience.
Terezin, Czech Republic
Terezin is a former military fortress town where the Theresienstadt Ghetto was established in 1941 by the German SS during WWII and was a waystation to the extermination camps. It served as a concentration camp until May 1945.
Almost 33,000 people died at Theresienstadt, mostly from malnutrition and disease. More than 88,000 people were held there for months or years before being deported to extermination camps.
Mondsee and Salzburg, Austria
We embarked a full day excursion to visit sites from the Sound of Music and Mozart’s birthplace. We stopped first in the scenic lakeside town of Mondsee to visit St. Michael’s Basilica where Maria and Captain von Trapp were married.
We walked through the beautifully landscaped Mirabell Gardens: Maria and the von Trapp children frolicked in the fountain and ran under the trellis in their clothes made from curtains.
Wachau Valley
The Wachau Valley in Austria runs along the Danube River and is known for its beauty and high-quality winemaking. It is gorgeous.
Vienna
Vienna is the capital of Austria and the most populous city on the Danube River.
Schönbrunn Palace and Gardens were as opulent. A few visited Belvedere Museum where we saw many of Gustav Klimt’s works on exhibit including his famous The Kiss.
There were many more sites visited but those may be for another day. You can follow the Book Whisperer @thebookwhisperertn on Instagram.
