I was planning to share Croatia and Montenegro travels this week, but I am sharing tips on another top international travel location instead: Japan.

Japan is called the “Land of the Rising Sun.” It is a land of stunning contrasts, offering an incredible mix of ancient traditions and cutting-edge modernity from serene temples and traditional tea houses to bustling city streets and futuristic technology.

Some of the more typical tourist-visited cities include Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka, Nara, Hokkaido and Okinawa.

Tokyo is the capital of Japan, a cultural hub that blends Japanese culture with modern influences. the city is home to numerous museums, theaters and historic sites, including the Meiji Shrine and the Imperial Palace.

Kyoto was once the capital of Japan and is renowned for its classical Buddhist temples, as well as gardens, imperial palaces and traditional wooden houses. The city is famous for its stunning cherry blossoms in spring and vibrant autumn foliage.

Hiroshima is known for its tragic history but is now a symbol of peace and resilience. The Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, dedicated to the victims of the atomic bomb, features the haunting Atomic Bomb Dome and a museum that tells the story of the city’s past.

Osaka has earned the nickname “the Kitchen of Japan.” Visit Osaka Castle, a historic landmark surrounded by a beautiful park, and the Universal Studios Japan theme park for a day of fun and entertainment.

Nara was Japan’s first capital and is a UNESCO World Heritage site that offers a glimpse into the country’s ancient past. The Nara Park is home to free-roaming deer and several significant temples, including Todai-ji, which houses a giant Buddha statue.

Hokkaido offers stunning landscapes, especially in places like Furano and Biei, known for their colorful flower fields for nature lovers. A must visit is Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, known for its annual snow festival and delicious ramen.

Okinawa is known for its beautiful beaches and unique culture and is a perfect getaway for those looking to relax. The islands are known for their coral reefs, making it perfect for snorkeling and diving.

There are also hidden gems for the tourist with time to explore Mount Fuji, Kamakura, Nagasaki and Kanazawa.

Mount Fuji is the country’s tallest peak and a symbol of Japan. You can hike to the summit during the climbing season which is July to September or just admire its beauty without the exertion.

Kamakura is located just south of Tokyo and is famous for its Great Buddha and beautiful temples such as The Hase-dera Temple. Kamakura’s beaches are also a beautiful location for relaxation.
