James Foster “Hoot” Chambers (deceased 8/21/19) and Iva Nell Gambrell Chambers (deceased 8/26/19), longtime residents of Concord/Farragut, passed away at home within days of each other. Both were 88.
The couple were born in Wayne County, Tenn., met at Collinwood High School and married in 1952. Jim, a Korean War veteran, U.S. Air Force, was a radio operator on C-124 Globemasters, stationed in Japan.
Jim started his own road building construction business in 1958. Nell was a fulltime mother and longtime homemaker. Both joined Crichton Memorial Church in Concord, helping that church become the new First Baptist Church of Concord on Kingston Pike. Jim, once a deacon, and Nell, choir member, served for many years in this church, with many lifelong friends. In later life, they changed their letter to Cumberland Baptist, enjoying new friends and fellowship.
A visitation for both will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the old sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Concord. Burial will be in Collinwood. Additional obituary information here.
