Has your child thought up a solution to an everyday problem for themselves or a friend?

Meet Ann Makosinski. At 15, Ann realized her friend in the Philippines was failing her classes because she couldn’t study at night due to no electricity. Ann knew her friend needed a flashlight but normal ones wouldn’t work because her friend didn’t have access to batteries either and solar might not be an option.

Ann cleverly invented a special flashlight powered only by the warmth of a human hand.

Ann’s invention could benefit 1.3 billion people who don’t have regular access to electricity.

Since her invention, Ann has given three TEDx talks, was named one of Time magazine’s 30 under 30 for 2013, and appeared several national talk shows.

When your child starts finding answers to everyday problems, pay attention. They may be onto a world-wide solution.
