Introducing a new intermittent feature to our Wednesday lineup, which may appeal to a very young audience: Crapper Hattie and Crapper Mom. Say what?

As all families with young children search for the magic potion for mastering literacy for their children, don’t forget the engagement factors of creativity.

According to a 2022 research study from the National Library of Medicine, “Creativity can be considered a fundamental skill nowadays as a differential for success, quality of life and mental health, especially after the global pandemic that started in 2020.

The researchers reiterate what most educators and parents realize. They aimed to use this study to characterize the relationship between creativity and literacy.

Melissa Halter is an elementary teacher and Hattie, her elementary-age daughter.

They have created videos focused on bugs, yes bugs, with Crapper Hattie and Crapper Mom, and while the kids may learn about the bugs they investigate, the creativity involved will capture the imagination of parents and kids that watch, inspiring others to venture into unknown possibilities.

Crapper Mom Melissa says, “It started as Trapper Dad and Hattie and Hattie mispronounced Trapper as Crapper so it stuck. Her Dad “retired” so she asked me to come on as her sidekick. She loves to learn about the bugs, and we try to be as educationally accurate as possible in our videos. Hattie loves being social and being on camera, too. I am always surprised with how many people tell me they love the videos; I didn’t think anyone really watched. But she continuously asks to do them, especially if she spots a mysterious bug.”

We will air the first episode next week. Stay tuned!
