The Dining Duo found a new barbecue spot recently opened in South Knox County on John Sevier Highway that is worth the trip through Alcoa Highway construction!

HardWood BBQ is located at 2014 W. Governor John Sevier Hwy. and as our friend Scott Bacon says, “If you are a fan of barbecue, this place is a treat!”

Scott recommended the chipped beef brisket, claiming owners Brandon and Kelly Waldrip have him hooked, so that is what the Duo recommends.

Prices are extremely reasonable and the sandwiches are large. As an example, a beef brisket plate on a bun with two sides is $10.50, so you shouldn’t leave hungry. Your wallet will thank you as well.

Owner Brandon has created four sauces that will allow you to make your BBQ as hot or mild as you wish.

South Knoxville and South Knox County natives will reminisce with the collection of old photos of buildings, the people who attended South High, Young High, South-Young High, Doyle High and South-Doyle High. The owners are always looking for items from the legacy high schools to add to the collection.

If you are eating on game day, there are three large screen TVs that allow you to still catch the big games.

HardWood BBQ is open Tuesday through Thursday from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and on Friday and Saturday till 9 p.m.

They run special every day for our special public servants:

  • 10% off daily for active military and veterans
  • 10% off Wednesdays for first responders
  • 10% off Thursdays for students/teachers

Go check HardWood BBQ on Facebook for a look at their menu and the restaurant. This place is worth the visit.

The Dining Duo is looking for the “hidden gem eateries “where the locals fill the breakfast and lunch hour; those local haunts tucked into the out of way or right on the way places missed in the hustle and bustle of the day. Email us your recommendations at email here.
