The Grace Christian Academy women’s and men’s varsity golf teams both had record-breaking seasons for the program.
The women’s team of sophomore Lydia Walker and freshman Leah Rowe went 8-8 in the regular season. In the post-season, the teams defeated seven others to place third in the district tournament advancing them to the regional tournament as a women’s team for the first time in school history.
Leah Rowe finished her regional tournament round strong, shooting a new personal low to secure a state tournament bid as an individual competitor. At the state tournament, she tied her competitive best 18-hole round on the first day, and then shot only 1 stroke higher the next day, giving her another all-time personal low.
Playing for the men’s varsity golf team this year: Jacob Rose, Joel Crisp, Daniel Walker, Campbell Johnson, Houston Mountain, Mayne DeVault, Nathan Mayberry, Greyson Pointer, Rylan Hickman, Noah Keck, Reece Cook and Pierce Stiltner.
This team finished regular season play at 12-7-1, breaking a GCA team scoring record not once but twice during the regular season.
In post-season play the team finished third in the district tournament advancing them to the regional tournament where they knocked out the championship favorite to advance to the state tournament as the regional tournament runner-up.
The men’s golf team became the first GCA golf team in school history to advance to the state tournament. GCA was represented at the state tournament by the starting five: senior Jacob Rose, sophomore Joel Crisp, junior Daniel Walker, sophomore Campbell Johnson and freshman Houston Mountain.
Day one was led by Joel Crisp shooting a competitive personal best, even par 72. Also leading on day one was an even par 72 by Jacob Rose and Houston Mountain shooting just 1 stroke off his competitive personal best at 78. Over the two-day event, both Crisp and Mountain shot their personal best 36-hole tournament event.
Jacob Rose finished his high school career by leading the team with a strong 1 under par performance over the two days, to secure fourth place overall individual in the state.
The men’s team finished fifth overall in the 2024 state championship.
