First Horizon hopes to collect 5,000 holiday greeting cards for military personnel stationed overseas.

“It’s important to hear from home,” said Paul Ollis, an Army veteran and manager of First Horizon’s West Haven branch. He jumped in to help when WIVK radio personalities Tony and Kris issued a challenge to collect 10,000 cards. The promotion is sponsored by Food City.

First Horizon will have cards available to sign this Saturday at the bank’s Vol Village before the UT-Georgia football game, said Courtney Potts, public relations liaison.

Michele Parrott, executive assistant to Dave Miller, sent an email blast to all First Horizon staff in East Tennessee. “The goal is to collect 10,000 greeting cards from individuals, businesses, schools and churches,” she wrote. “The cards will be carried overseas by members of the Air National Guard Refueling Wing from McGhee Tyson.”

Ollis said cards should be signed by an individual but not addressed to a specific soldier. “They will be handed out to everyone” at the overseas bases.

Time is short. Parrott says here is how to help:

  • Purchase holiday cards and write a little note of warm wishes and thanks
  • Drop off your cards at your regional main office (Knoxville Plaza, Chattanooga, Johnson City or Maryville)
  • Drop off cards on or before Monday, November 15.

Cards will be collected and hand-delivered to WIVK studio on Wednesday, November 17. Ollis plans to drive to Chattanooga on Tuesday to collect their cards.
