New and vibrant members are the lifeblood of Rotary and the club recently inducted four new members. We inducted our newest member at our Wednesday meeting at Costco on Aug. 16. That brings our membership total to 94 – the highest ever. Our goal is to end the Rotary year with 100 members by June 30.
Our newest member is Val Privett, president of the Privett Insurance Group. Her sponsor is Realtor Teri Jo Fox. Earlier in the summer we inducted Julie Blaylock, the president and CEO of the Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce. Her sponsor is Bettye Sisco, her predecessor at the chamber. Also inducted in August were Steve Krempasky, the executive director of the Farragut Business Alliance and sponsored by past president David Smoak, town manager of Farragut, and Dustin Barnwell, sponsored by past president Dale Read.
The club meets at Costco once a year when the Knoxville Open web.com PGA golf tournament is being played at Fox Den Country Club, where the club meets each Wednesday at 12:15 p.m.
Ryan retires from Coast Guard: Past president Joan McIntee (aka Mother Rotary) and husband Jim are just back from a trip to Cleveland, Ohio, for the retirement ceremony of their daughter, U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral June E. Ryan. Her career spanned 35 years and she is the first female in the 227-year history of the Coast Guard to go from the enlisted ranks to the rank of Admiral. At retirement, she was commanding the Coast Guard’s 9th District – its second largest area that includes the Great Lakes, the entire coastline of Canada, the St. Lawrence Seaway, eight states and the upper Mississippi River.
