Knoxville attorney Janie Frances Duncan has died at age 71. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date to be announced.

A graduate of West High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree and law degree from the University of Tennessee. Later she received her Master of Laws in International and Comparative Law, cum laude from Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Brussels, Belgium. She was an attorney for many years with the Federal Trade Commission as well as serving in private practice in both Atlanta and Knoxville. She also studied art at the Savannah School of Art and Design and was an accomplished painter. As a young person she traveled widely through Europe, the U.S. and the Caribbean. She especially enjoyed such activities as snorkeling in the Cayman Islands.

She was preceded in death by her parents, King and Glennie Cox Duncan Sr. She is survived by her brothers, King Duncan Jr. and Tim Duncan. Obituary information here.
