Former two-term Nashville Mayor Karl Dean, who’s running for the Democratic nomination for Tennessee’s governor, visited Knoxville Tuesday to open his new field office at 900 E. Hill Ave., just a block away from the Safety Building. Pleased with the enthusiastic turnout, Dean greeted his Knoxville supporters warmly and spoke briefly about his focus on issues such as education and healthcare. Dean and wife Anne Davis pose with campaign staffer Ronald Elliott, Knoxvillians Don and Sally Lighter (flanking Dean), and their granddaughters, Bearden High student Miranda Lighter and Aislin Steill. Office hours are 9 a.m.-9 p.m. daily. Phone: 276-696-9937. (Photo by Betsy Pickle)
