First Presbyterian Knoxville is excited to welcome author, speaker, musician and peacemaker David LaMotte, author of You Are Changing the World Whether You Like It or Not, for a special event on Sunday, November 3, 2024.

All are welcomed to hear Lamotte’s presentation, based on his recent viral TEDx talk, Why Heroes Don’t Change the World, at 9:45 a.m. in the chapel, followed by a worship service at 11 a.m. where he will be preaching, and a concert at 1 p.m. in the sanctuary.

Don’t miss a catered sandwich lunch at noon for just $10 per person; RSVP online at firstpres.rsvp.

David LaMotte has performed over 3,500 concerts worldwide and released 13 albums, including Still, which topped Folk Radio charts in 2022.

He has spoken at the PC(USA) Mission to the United Nations and global peace conferences, and his 2024 TEDx talk, Why Heroes Don’t Change the World, was a TED Editor’s Pick.

He co-founded Senderos, a nonprofit supporting education and the arts in Guatemala, and serves as a consultant on peace and justice for the North Carolina Council of Churches.

Coming from a Presbyterian family of ministers, LaMotte’s lifelong commitment to social change is also reflected in his work with the interfaith musical trio Abraham Jam and his “Let’s Be Neighbors” campaign, which promotes compassion across communities, including the recent Hurricane Relief efforts in Western North Carolina. He currently lives in Black Mountain, North Carolina, with his family.
