CSX Bridge

Christopher RobinOur Town Arts

Last week Robin shared her painting of the CSX Bridge from the Scottish Pike Park.

Several years ago, I photographed that bridge from Neyland Drive on the north side looking for perspectives of angles, colors or details that might make interesting art. Nothing extraordinary came from that shoot so I planned to return under better lighting conditions or possibly a thick layer of fog.

Reviewing the images this week made me realize the bridge itself is a work of art. The forms, rivets, bolts and heavy steel trusses seemingly going every direction make it an engineering wonder. It brings back great memories of Erector Set projects completed in my youth. Hundreds of pieces and tiny nuts and bolts allowed me to venture into the heavy construction world building bridges, high rise towers and even an overhead crane.

Not every photograph is a work of art but, in some way or another, they capture and hold, or in this case, release a memory.

Photographer Chris and painter Robin Rohwer each week share a painting or photograph that captured their interest in hopes that it will also capture yours. They have a small studio and gallery in the Phoenix Building at 418 South Gay Street where you can stop and see their work. Their website is www.ChristopherRobinArts.com. All works are copyright protected.
