Earlier this year, CPT Patrick Fugate was privileged to be inducted into the Olmsted Scholar Class of 2025. The award is granted to those highly qualified junior level officers wishing to pursue a study of language as well as earn a graduate-level degree overseas. CPT Fugate will be pursuing his degree in Italy.
Since its creation in 1957, the Olmsted Scholarship came to fruition under the guise of a need to educate the brightest minds in military service on a broad level, physically and geographically. The grant has been awarded to over 700 recipients since 1959.
This multi-year program is a life-changing experience for scholars and their families, coming from the cultural immersion, especially with families, managing every aspect of daily life, from housing to children’s schooling.
Patrick is a 2012 graduate of West High School. He then went to the University of Mississippi where he was a member of the Army ROTC. He graduated and was commissioned as an Army officer in 2016. He is married and has two sons.
