The city has a great idea. The Greenways Ambassador initiative was developed by the Knoxville Greenways Commission and I hope it’s expanded into the county. As announced at the city’s recent Neighborhoods Conference, the ambassadors will be volunteers who promote the use of the greenways and serve as a friendly resource of information to greenway users.

Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and are required to complete online training and spend a minimum of one hour on a greenway at least four times per month. Greenway Ambassadors can pick their greenway of choice and the times when they are volunteering.

Knoxville has more than 112 miles of greenways and soft surface trails, with about 54 miles of paved ADA-accessible greenways.

The ambassadors will be picking up litter, promoting appropriate greenways etiquette, reporting trail conditions, providing basic assistance in the event of an emergency, and, if certified to do so, providing First Aid. To volunteer, go here.
