- It was Tim Burchett day on the Sunday talk shows, highlighted by another new set on Inside Tennessee. Cool.
- In response to questions from panelists Dennis Francis (D) and Susan Richardson Williams (R), Burchett said his job of mayor won’t suffer from his campaign for Congress: “There are 24 hours in the day and I’ll use 25 of them.” He predicted he’ll spend “$600,000 to $700,000” and said he collected $10,000 on the day he announced. Hmmm. That just leaves $590,000 (or $690,000) to go.
- Burchett said he’s not worried about the refusal of U.S. Rep. John Duncan Jr. to endorse him because he’s never had the support “of the inside crowd.” Williams said 60 percent of the vote in the 7-county district comes from Knox County and Burchett will have strong appeal to the Trump voters.
- Burchett was all over the lot on health care, saying on WATE, “Once you make health care free it becomes very expensive.” He said the solution to rising costs is the free market, but also said “as a Christian” he could not vote to kick people off of health care. He then said health care is not a right, and he doesn’t favor requiring everyone to have insurance.
- Gee, it takes all 52 GOP senators to offer this range of opinions.
