WBIR-TV will broadcast live from Powell Station Park today (June 12) from 4-5 p.m. Powell High School’s digital sign welcomes the (TV) station to the (Historic Powell) station.

Justin Bailey says WBIR will do a hometown spotlight as well. “They have done features on The Front Porch, historic homes and buildings, and several of the boutiques around town. The show will cut back and forth from pre-recorded mini-spots to the live feed.”

Ciderville will be playing live music during the broadcast, Bailey said. He encourages everyone who can to drop by to give WBIR a big Powell welcome.

PBPA will meet at noon Tuesday, June 13, at the Jubilee Banquet Facility. Lunch is $14. The speaker is Virginia Mulrooney, recently crowned Mrs. Tennessee America. She and family have horse farm in North Knox, and she is a fierce lupus survivor and volunteer.

Powell History Club has switched to monthly meetings. The first will be Wednesday, June 14, from 2-3 p.m. at The Front Porch. A special lunch for the group is soup and cornbread for $5. Attendees can order off the menu or not eat at all. Meetings are open to all interested persons. Gary Cunningham is the chair.

Enhance Powell will meet from 4-5 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, at Lifehouse Coffee. This group seeks to make Powell better by landscaping and upgrading public facilities.

Powell Playhouse is rehearsing its next performance: “A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody,” which will run June 22-24 at Jubilee Banquet Facility. The Playhouse has moved its rehearsals to the Community Center on Emory Road.
