Following Betty Bean’s story in Knox TN Today earlier this morning, the city of Knoxville has announced that the iconic, 70-year-old swings in Fountain City Park will remain.
Per the press release, “the old play structure in Fountain City Park has been removed and will mostly be replaced, but the unique (and beloved) swings are being painted, repaired and preserved. The upgraded playground – with the preserved original swings – is expected to reopen in early April.”
Additionally, more than $100,000 worth of sidewalk upgrades will be made throughout the park as well as Fountain City Lake (aka the Duck Pond) over the course of six weeks starting Feb. 7. The park will not be closed during these upgrades, but access to the work zones will.
