The new venue was perfect as the Tennessee Valley Mustang Club held the third annual Travis Wegener Memorial Car Show Aug. 19 at Powell High School.

Shiny Fords with raised hoods lined the school’s parking lot three deep for the event. Afterwards, awards went to owners of the Top 40 Fords, plus specialty awards. Excuse our spelling and we’ll list as many of these as we could write down during the awards presentation (will update if obtain better list):

Volunteer Street Rods – club participation award

Jim Maddox – best engine and peoples choice awards

Gordy Fleenor – best paint

Steve Buffalo – best interior

Jeremy Wiederspahn – PHS choice

Holly Gamble Funeral Home – Wegener family choice

George Hackett – best in show (pre-1979)

Sarah (?) – best of show (1979 or newer)

Doug and Donna Loveday were all over the place. Volunteers from Sharon Baptist Church grilled hamburgers and hot dogs — food donated by Food City. Members of the Powell Business & Professional Association sold lunch and donated silent auction items

Sean and Tracy Metz collected items for the silent auction. Final proceeds have not been calculated, but donations will be designated for the Collier Preserve, a project of the PBPA’s Enhance Powell committee.

Nick Cancemi, associate pastor of Sharon Baptist Church, speaks prior to the balloon release. With him are Dr. Don and Cindy Wegener and Doug Loveday of the Tennessee Valley Mustang Club.

John Diamond accepts recognition for coordinating the second annual Travis Wegener Memorial Disc Golf tournament.

Dan Arp uses pedal-power to propel a miniature carousel he and wife Cindy brought to the car show.

State Rep. Bill Dunn (at left) and members of the PBPA sell food during the car show. Steven Goodpaster said he turned over more than $700 from the cash tray.
