Logan Henderson’s Eagle Scout project honors our flag

On Tuesday, May 14, attendees at the Powell Business & Professional Association heard from Logan Henderson. Logan spoke about his Eagle Scout project that was born from a need he observed in our communities: proper flag disposal.

Logan envisioned a disposal site at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, but not just a burn pit. He has designed a walkway, leading to a patio which contains an attractive firepit in the center. The firepit will be located next to the chapel and will be easily accessible to the community.

The new feature will enhance the cemetery, providing a location for the proper retirement of flags.

The project has the support of the local American Legion Post and the The East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, but it is significantly more expensive than most Eagle Scout projects because of its scope, scale and quality with the cost estimated to range between $15,000 to $20,000.

As Logan closed the Q & A part of his presentation, his project received donations from both the PBPA and Steve Smith representing Food City.
