On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, the Rotary Club of Knoxville is awarding its 2024 Peace Award to Marti Baker and the organization she founded: CareCuts of Knoxville. The noon luncheon will be held at Knoxville Museum of Art, 1050 World’s Fair Park. To reserve your spot, call 865-523-8252 or email.

CareCuts, launched in April 2016, operates with a mission: to restore dignity to those facing homelessness and adversity through the love of Jesus Christ. Although the primary service is to provide free haircuts for the homeless and less fortunate every Sunday, CareCuts doesn’t stop at haircuts.

CareCuts operates entirely through dedicated volunteers with a team of hair professionals, cosmetologists, barbers and salon owners who ensure the less fortunate receive not only a fresh haircut but also a warm meal. They serve food, distribute clothing and tend to the immediate needs of those they encounter. It’s about more than sustenance; it’s about showing kindness and compassion. It’s about empowering them to regain independence.

CareCuts is the eighth recipient of the Peace Award. Previous winners included Vivian Shipe and I AM the Voice of the Voiceless, Yassin Terou of Yassin’s Falafel, the Beck Cultural Exchange Center, the Community Law Office and Bridge Refugee Services.
