American Sign Language classes

The Farragut Parks & Recreation Department is offering a series of eight American Sign Language classes on Mondays, beginning May 20, 5-6:30 p.m., at the Farragut Community Center, 239 Jamestowne Blvd.

There is no class on Monday, May 27, due to Memorial Day.

The class covers expressive and receptive skill development in sign communication and will be taught entirely in sign. Instruction begins with learning the alphabet and practicing name fingerspelling. Vocabulary, greetings and common phrases will also be covered.

This very unique class has three requirements:

  1. Participants must be at least 18 years of age
  2. Cost is $75
  3. Purchase of one-year subscription to ALS Deafined  which is $12 is required
