Indya Kincannon is Knoxville mayor for four more years, winning outright on August 29, 2023, with 57.5% of the vote in a four-way race. Unofficial returns are here.
Heading for the Tuesday, Nov. 7, general election are:
- City Judge: Judge John Rosson (37.6%) will face Tyler Caviness (36.2%). Mary Ward and Andrew Beamer were eliminated.
- City Council at-large Seat A: Incumbent Lynne Fugate (46%) vs. challenger Cameron Brooks (43%). Darin Worsham was eliminated.
- At-large Seat B: Debbie Helsley (69.6%) vs. R. Bentley Marlow (30.3%)
- At-large Seat C: Incumbent Amelia Parker (41%) vs. Tim Hill (36.9%). Matthew Best was eliminated.
- City Council District 5: Charles Thomas was unopposed.
Notes
Helsley actually led the ticket with 10,536 votes. Kincannon got 9,429.
Parker gets more for less. Parker came into the last reporting period with $1,158 on hand; she raised $13,765 and spent $8,460, for a balance of $6,463. Tim Hill, who ran second, came in with $129,721 and raised $24,212. He spent $67,347, leaving a balance of $86,500. Matthew Best, who was eliminated, raised roughly $18,000 and spent roughly $16,300; leaving a balance of $1,700.
OK. So here were my predictions in an email to Betty Bean:
- Kincannon wins outright
- Rosson wins outright
- Seat A – Brooks edges Fugate; both advance
- Seat B – Helsley wins primary with 60% +
- Seat C – Best, Hill, Parker in that order. Parker eliminated
- District 5 – Charles Thomas unopposed.
Bean’s response:
You’re gonna be wrong, wrong, wrong about Parker. She’s going to run first. Best eliminated. Fugate will beat Cameron. Caviness will fight on in November.
I misfired on three of five races; Bean scored 100%.
