Superintendent Dr. Jon Rysewyk has named three new principals, with appointments effective July 2022.
Megan Blevins, now assistant principal, will be principal of Inskip Elementary School, as current principal Lynn Jacomen moves to Hardin Valley Elementary. Blevins joined Knox County Schools in 2007 as a English as a Second Language teacher. She also has taught at Carter Elementary, Ritta Elementary and served as a district lead teacher. She began her career in administration in 2017 as an administrative assistant at Mooreland Heights Elementary. Later, she was selected to be part of the Leadership Academy and placed at Brickey-McCloud Elementary School as an assistant principal.
Taiesha Young, now assistant principal, will be principal of Pond Gap Elementary School. Current principal Trina Bruns has been named principal of Amherst Elementary. Young joined KCS in 2017 as a teacher at Holston Middle. She previously taught in Mississippi. She became assistant principal at Gibbs Elementary in 2019 and was named assistant principal at Pond Gap in 2020. Young holds a bachelor’s degree in education from Alcorn State, a master’s degree in education from the University of West Alabama, and an educational specialist degree in educational administration from Arkansas State University.
James Slay has been named principal of Gap Creek Elementary School. Current Gap Creek principal Tiffany Watkins has been named principal at Spring Hill Elementary. Slay joined KCS in 2011 as a teacher at Inskip Elementary. He was assistant principal at Shannondale in 2016, and was named assistant principal at Green Magnet Academy in 2017, where he now serves.
