Former Farragut residents die in accidents

The Farragut community mourns the loss of two recent residents. Both young men died from accidents in other states.

Ben Selecman, 28, lived in Farragut with parents Mark and Brenda and younger brother Cole from childhood through his undergraduate years at UT. He died Sept. 12 from traumatic head injuries received when helping a woman onto a Florida boat dock, according to press reports.

Ben finished law school at the University of Memphis and was employed by the Davidson County District Attorney’s Office from April 2017 until his passing.

He was married to Mattie, daughter of country singer Alan Jackson. A service to honor his life will be held at noon today (9/17) at Christ Presbyterian Church in Nashville.

Zach Yeary, 24, of Kansas City, Missouri, attended Farragut High School before moving to Kansas City to become executive chef at Aramark Honeywell. He was one of two Kansas City residents killed in separate hit-and-run accidents this month.

Zach’s parents are James Yeary Jr. and Marie Barclay. His sister is Chanel Yeary. He also is survived by grandparents Sue Yeary and Robert and Donna Flores. A motorist hit Yeary’s motorcycle and then fled the scene, according to police reports. The accident occurred Sunday night.

Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee, Kansas; a celebration of life starts at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at Holiday Inn Midland Drive in Shawnee.
