Knox County school board extended the International Baccalaureate Program at Bearden Middle School, but only after intense debate among members, a strong show of support by Bearden residents and a ringing endorsement from Superintendent Bob Thomas. Lynne Fugate’s motion passed 7-0-2 with Mike McMillan and Amber Rountree passing.
Halls Republican Club will host candidates for Circuit Court clerk 7-8 p.m. Monday, July 17, at the Boys & Girls Club of Halls-Powell, 1819 Dry Gap Pike. Come for refreshments at 6:30. Candidates are Don Ridings, Scott Smith, Charlie Susano Jr. and Tim Wheeler.
Candidates for City Council from District 2 will meet the public from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, July 17, at Deane Hill Recreation Center. Vice Mayor Duane Grieve currently holds the seat and is term-limited.
County Commissioners Ed Brantley and Bob Thomas will meet the public from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 19, at the new SoKno Taco, 3710 Sevierville Pike. Everyone is invited to attend. Dinner is Dutch treat.
Central High School Triennial Golden Grad Reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Rothchild Event Center, 8807 Kingston Pike.
